JÄRFÄLLA, Sweden - ACM AB Exhibiting at WIRE2008
Stand: 9E40 at WIRE2008 in Düsseldorf 31 March - 4 April 2008 Stand personal: Stefan Askenfors, Karel Weis, Johan Aksberg Exhibiting: KSM Measuring system with the KSMEval program. To measure will not reduce the cost ---- but an intelligent use of ACCURATE MEASURING DATA can!! KSM, the premier off line measuring and data acquisition system from ACM AB/Sweden produces accurate measuring data allowing for efficient and profitable analyzing of over dimensional cost and process variations. The dominating cost in cables, MATERIAL, can be reduced by using the KSMEval program where over dimensional costs can be substantiated by selectable parameters; for example by product code, production line, operator, etc. These subjects can then be further filtered by date, time, etc. Production line economics can easily be compared. Remember an extruder line yearly consumes typically 2-3 million EURO or even more of insulation compound. Corrective actions based upon the accurate and defined date acquired through the KSM system can result in annual factory savings of Euro (US$) 200,000. - and more. During WIRE 2008 ACM AB will demonstrate both the KSM measuring/database system and the unique office analyzing tool KSMEval. By producing 1% longer lengths with the same materials your bottom line profit increases 10% (based on a 10% company profit)!!

Brantford - Wire and Tube 2006 so BIG and Fantastic there was just not time to see it all .

If there was one lesson to learn it was that pre-show planning and making appointments in advance pays off. This is also why we encourage companies with web sites on wireworld who are exhibitors at the shows we promote to provide us with information about their exhibits well in advance of the show so we can bring it to the attention of people planning to attend the show. Over the next few weeks will also highlight some of the many press releases . Brussels Belgium - Cutting edge technology showcased by FIB at Wire Düsseldorf 2006
A solution to the process problem of monitoring and controlling coating weights in hot dip galvanizing has been found. In a press release Friday FIB announced that the company has developed a special system that allows the continuous monitoring of the zinc coating weight within a range of 150 to 650g/m2. Based on laser or Eddy current, the system coupled with a zinc wiping system, allows trimming the nitrogen flow to keep a constant preset zinc coating weight. Should the system not be able to make the control any more (clogging, vibration on the wire…) according to the required target, it gives an alarm to ask the intervention of the operator. The system is applicable for vertical galvanizing or for Galfan®. Regarding the operator, a friendly man/machine interface allows the operator to introduce easily its zinc coating target and the level of coating when the alarm should be given. With those data, the system will then trim automatically the zinc coating weight via the nitrogen wiping. Special care has been taken to allow sensors not to be sensitive to moister, wire diameter, temperature and to give a linear response versus the zinc coating weight allowing a stable and liable reading of the zinc amount. With important savings in scraps and operator’s time and allowing a full continuous control in line with the galvanizing process, the zinc monitoring system gives a fast return on investment on galvanizing lines.

A PowerPoint presentation could be dispatched upon request about the upper technology. To request e-mail. c.beke@fib.be. With more than 76 galvanizing lines in the world, FIB is today a leader for galvanizing and Galfan® lines for both high and low carbon lines. Bethersden, Kent U.K. - PWM Introduces New Compact Rod Welder at wire Düsseldorf 2006
PWM, leading UK manufacturer of cold pressure welding equipment, is launching a new compact hydraulic rod welder at wire Düsseldorf 2006 (stand 9B41). The new P1000 is designed for fast, economical welding of non-ferrous rod. It has a wide capacity of .236" to .630" copper and .236" to .790" aluminium. The small footprint (43" by 49") and gross weight of 3,255 lbs make the P1000 ideal for use in small workshops. The P1000 is extremely simple to operate. The sloping front panel and mechanical parts allow easy viewing of the cold weld process, which is completed in less than a minute, with auto-deflashing on completion. New quick release dies and a new easily adjustable die setting mechanism ensure that die changeover is fast and problem-free. The machine's operating system is controlled by an advanced and easy to use programmable logic controller (PLC) which takes the hydraulic system through the required welding sequence. Power consumption is minimal and the P1000 requires no heat, flux or fillers, so no dangerous fumes are generated and the machine is clean and safe to operate.

Steve Mepsted, managing director of PWM, said: "We developed the P1000 to meet the demand for a competitively priced rod welder that bridges the gap between our popular EP500 model and our large capacity P1500 rod welder.

"The P1000 offers wire and cable manufacturers a host of time-saving design features, packed into a robust frame that is compact enough to fit into most workshops. The machine is totally reliable and extremely easy to operate, eliminating the need for all but the most basic operator training. Like all our cold welders, the P1000 is environmentally sound and low maintenance, making it a safe, cost-effective and 'greener' alternative to electrical weld systems." Mielkendorf, Germany - UHING FA System presented at Wire 2006
UHING FA System Traversing system automatically adapts to the spool width

Uhing has developed the non-contact FA flange detecting system that automatically adapts the traversing pitch to the respective spool in use. This will be presented at Wire 2006 in Hall 11, booth 11B40.

Uhing, the manufacturer of mechanic traversing systems and inventor of the rolling ring drive, significantly facilitates retrofitting of traversing units to spools with varying widths with the FA. The FA also detects and compensates for non-standard positions of spools on the winding shaft without requiring manual adjustment of end stops on the traversing unit.

The major FA component is a light barrier travelling on the traversing unit. When one of the spool flanges interrupts its light beam, the pneumatic reversal unit on the traversing unit receives a switch-over signal.

Schlieren, Switzerland - System POSIWELD Type Libra with “ToolMate” - Schlatter

The “just in time“ philosophy combined with ever higher quality standards, are the challenges facing the wire industry today. So often, production lots are only in small batches- ten, maybe a hundred or so pieces. The tooling effort and the machine set-up time often become more relevant than the actual production time itself. Discover this solution at Schlatter's booth at the WIRE & TUBE 2006 fair in Düsseldorf: Hall 11; Booth A 06.

The need:

Schlatter’s System POSIWELD (positioning and welding) machines are, as acceptance in the wire industry demonstrates, the right answer to many applications. Several requests from job shoppers for a simple method to allow for active work piece jig functions lead to the below described “ToolMate” feature.

MOUNT VERNON, NY - ECHOMAC® FD-4 TEST INSTRUMENTATION INTRODUCED
Magnetic Analysis Corporation (MAC) introduces the FD-4, the latest in its Echomac® line of ultrasonic test instrumentation and control electronics for on- or off-line inspection of tube, bar or plate. The significantly enhanced product is designed for flaw detection, and measurement of wall thickness and outside diameter in tube and pipe applications. Additionally, the flexible FD-4 is suitable for use in both new installations and in retrofit applications using existing transducers.

MAC will demonstrate the FD-4 at the TUBE 2006 show in Düsseldorf, Germany from April 24 – 28 at booth #70, C 36 in Hall 7. At the show, MAC will also feature its Rotoflux® flux leakage and Rotomac® rotary eddy current test systems. With 32 test channels in a single system, the FD-4 features outstanding test performance in a Windows® XP platform. With the new OD measurement capability, the FD-4 can report OD and ID dimensions and ovality, in addition to wall thickness, eccentricity, and wall variation. The equipment includes full network support for remote desktop viewing and control.
