Shanghai, China - Day 4 - Wire & Tube 2006

Day 4- Wire & Tube China 2006 - Shanghai, China

Day four was much slower as the booths started emptying as people anxiously wanted to get on with buisiness, their routine or home. While day 4 was slow, the unofficial numbers were as follows: Monday - 10,600 / Tuesday - 9,100 / Wed 6,000.

Many exhibitors were quite pleased with the show and the results of showcasing in it. It was organized well, but very focused on Chinese visitors, in spite of claiming to be an international show. The addition of a Subway stop right at the Expo, better carpets (my feet were in bad shape), and more focus on international visitors, Wire & Tube 2008 will turn out to be a great success.

In fact, once again a bi-annual show has proven helpful for many exhibitors who have established themselves and are now continuing in talks for contracts because of an initial interaction 2 years ago. If you did choose not to attend or exhibit, perhaps you should consider 2008. Please stay tuned for a post-show wrap up next week.

Shanghai, China - Day 3 - Wire & Tube China 2006

Day 3 - Wire & Tube China 2006 - Shanghai, China

Day three in China proved to be a little slower as we could see more and more of the red carpet. Although the numbers were down, the quality of visitors was still very surprising as we interacted with the visitors. The main story at this event is the number of Chinese companies in the wire & cable industry. Yes, there are over 300 Chinese companies exhibiting, but the amount of entrepreneur visitors who are starting companies is quite exciting.

This is the reason that there are many Euro American companies who are represented either by agent or by interpreter here at the show. The Chinese economy is growing very fast, and with that, if you do not get into the wire & cable action now, you will miss out. While many Chinese companies have displayed their lubricants, reels, take-ups, testing equipment, tapes and dies - there are still areas of the industry that demand the involvement of the long standing companies in the industry.

Shanghai, China - Wire & Tube China - Day 2

Day 2 - Wire & Tube China 2006 - Shanghai, China

Day 2 at Wire & Tube China 2006 continued with a high number of visitors, mainly from China, but also from India, Malaysia, and scattered South Asian countries. Anticipation on developing key accounts and new orders was high as visitor cards were passed from booth to booth.

In recent years, rapid growth of the wire & pipe industry in China has provided the stage for this exhibition. In a "five-year plan," China is noted to be the largest wire and cable producer in the world. China's wire & cable industry aims to target the following:

  • providing product and technologies
  • cost effective products and technologies
  • producing environmentally friendly and recycled goods
  • manufacturing products of high class technology

As China seeks to continue it's dominance in manufacturing, there is a great need for machinery, consumables and experience in the wire & cable industry. Time will tell if China can continue to grow and develop it's industrial capacity and whether or not opportunities will arise for suppliers to gain ground in establishing buisness with Chinese companies.
