Järfälla, Sweden - ACM at Interwire, stand 3026, displaying KSM, the tool to reduce the material cost
|
It is imperative to control manufacturing costs in today’s
competitive wire and cable market. Proper and accurate
measurements and sampling of insulated wires and cables is
required by UL standards, and there are numerous methods for
accomplishing this. While manual off-line insulation sample
measurements are common practice, it must be understood
that these measurements are time consuming and inaccurate
by 5% to 7%.
Today’s technology allows us to measure insulation samples
within one to three seconds, with an accuracy of 0.2%. ACM
AB of Sweden, which is represented in North America by
HOWAR Equipment, manufactures KSM offl ine insulation
measurement equipment that has been adopted by many of
today’s leading wire and cable manufacturers.
Over the past years, many collaborative studies with European
and American factories have provided great insight into
how effective these units are at helping manufacturers save up
to 5% of their raw insulation materials by reducing their wall
thicknesses through careful and accurate measurements and
corrective actions.

Aston, PA, U.S.A. - Traverse with spool flange detection - Interwire 2007 - Amacoil booth 3709
|
SPOOL FLANGE SENSING OPTIONS FOR REFLECTIVE OR NON-REFLECTIVE
SPOOLS ENHANCE SPOOLING ACCURACY AND SAVE TIME
Amacoil,
Inc., has introduced two styles of an optical flange sensing
system to enhance winding accuracy when used with Uhing traverse
winding drives. One system relies on the reflective properties
of the spool flanges, and the other version uses a "light
curtain" concept which does not require reflected light.
Both systems employ opto-sensors to detect the spool flanges
and signal a pneumatic or electronic switch to flip the spring-actuated
reversal lever on Uhing winding drive. Whereas the lever is
normally triggered by end stops manually positioned by an operator,
the flange sensing systems save time because the operator need
not stop work to adjust the end stops when spools of varying
widths are used. Additionally, spooling accuracy is enhanced
because optically detecting the flanges eliminates human error
in positioning the end stops.
