Teknor Apex Company has developed new RoHS-compliant
compounds for riser and plenum applications that
exhibit improved end-use performance in comparison with conventional
materials, according to the company’s Vinyl Division, which
will introduce the products at Interwire 2007 (Booth 3409). Most
of the compounds are for jacket applications, but one series is
the company’s first RoHS-compliant plenum-rated formulation
for both insulation and jacketing of cable with up to 200 pairs.
The products include Apex (R) vinyl riser compounds
and vinyl-based Fireguard (R) low-flame, low-smoke plenum compounds.
“Our new Fireguard products are high-performance
compounds that have exhibited results in UL flame and smoke tests
that are superior to those of conventional materials,” said
Mike Patel, industry manager. “The Apex vinyl compounds
have been formulated for special application requirements that
are not met by general-purpose products.”
-
Dual-use
Fireguard compounds for cable with up to 200 pairs. These
plenum compounds are the first RoHS-compliant Fireguard products
for both insulation and jacketing in up to 200-pair Category
3 cables, permitting a single-compound system.
- Enhanced-performance Fireguard compounds. Among the new
plenum jacketing compounds are two series for cables that
have fluoropolymer (FEP) insulation, one formulated for 4-pair
Category 6 applications and the other for 4-pair 10-gigabyte
LAN cables and coaxial cables; and a third series for 10 gigabyte
cables that have hybrid (fluoropolymer plus polyolefin) insulation,
as well as for fiber optic cables.
- Apex outdoor riser compounds. These products exhibit the
enhanced low-temperature properties and sunlight resistance
required for Category 6 outdoor riser jacketing.
- Apex 10-gigabyte riser compounds. The new series provides
the superior electrical and flame retardant properties needed
in high-performance communications cable.
All of the new compounds are available globally.
Teknor Apex plants in the U.S. and the Singapore plant of subsidiary
Singapore Polymer Corporation have the capability to produce identical
formulations.
